Mariners lean on McKinna signings

Round 1 of the 2008/2009 A-League season will see a brand new Central Coast Mariners take on the Newcastle Jets in last year's Grand Final re-match.

Five of that side's starting 11 will be unavailable for tomorrow night's season opener which will give a host of new Mariners a chance to impress and start the season off with a bang.

Recent signings including Pedj Bojic, Adrian Caceres, David D'Apuzzo and Ahmad Elrich are expected to come into the Central Coast line-up which will go into the match brimming with confidence after a solid pre-season.

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna was spirited in regards to the Mariners hopes for the forthcoming season.

"We've been training since May and we've had a lot of games, which is great, with a lot of great performances and overall it's been a good pre-season.

"To open up the Hyundai A-League season, against Newcastle, away form home - it doesn't get any harder or any better than that, we're looking forward to a great atmosphere with a great travelling support for the Mariners."
