Mariners just edge derby bore

Central Coast Mariners heaped more misery on Newcastle Jets with a late derby victory today.

The Jets went into the game knowing their finals hopes were over following Wellington Phoenix's victory over North Queensland Fury.

Argentine midfielder Patricio Perez was in the right spot to tap home from close range after a great run and cross from defender Joshua Rose in the 90th minute for the Mariners.

The result was achieved in front of 9,900 fans at Bluetongue Stadium.

The Mariners now face champions Brisbane Roar in their final next week.
