Mariano Diaz admits Real Madrid powerbrokers pushed him to join Olympique Lyon over the summer.
The former Real striker has been a revelation for OL this season - leading to criticism in Spain over the decision to allow him to leave.
Speaking about the move, Mariano told El Pais: "Why did I choose OL? I spoke with Florentino (Perez) and (Zinedine) Zidane.
"The president had told me about it one day in the locker room and when I spoke with the coach he recommended it to me after (Alexandre) Lacazette left for Arsenal. I have always considered it a great option.
"Then OL called me and told me all of their interest. They made a big bet with me, they were very interested and I am very happy with how they received me."
