Bolivian billionaire Marcelo Claure is continuing to push forward with his plans for a brand new stadium in Miami.
Claure, who has partnered up with David Beckham for the MLS expansion franchise, is determined to develop a venue in the Biscayne Bay area after initial plans for a stadium in PortMiami were shut down.
The telecommunications executive, along with Beckham and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller, has backed a public referendum to bring professional soccer back to Miami following the failure of the Fort Lauderdale-based Miami Fusion which fell over in 2002.
"What kills me is that the most dynamic and cosmopolitan city in the U.S. doesn't have a soccer team," Claure said.
"Now all the stars are aligned."
Plans to fill in a boat slip near the AmericanAirlines Arena, home of the NBA's Miami Heat, continue to be the number one agenda regarding the stadium says Claure.
"We wanted to build in an iconic place and there's no more iconic place than museums to the left and an arena to the right," he added.
