Maradona set for shock role at Portsmouth

According to reports Diego Maradona could quit his job as Argentina manager in order to become Portsmouth's 'global ambassador'. Arabianbusiness.com, a website with close links to new Pompey owner Sulaiman Al Fahim, claims to have seen emails discussing the move.

It is claimed Maradona would take on a director of football role with a responsibility for signing players.

His lawyer Angel Oscar Moyano is quoted as saying: "Diego Armando Maradona will be ready to come to Portsmouth FC. He's got all top players ready and even he's ready to leave Argentine national team."

Pompey's new owner Al Fahim is also a long-term fan of the player and intends to open a Maradona Sports Cafe in the UAE next year.
