Blackburn Rovers' owners are believed to be attempting to lure Diego Maradona into the vacant manager's role. Following Monday's sacking of Sam Allardyce, Indian group Venky's are now looking for a replacement and Maradona's name has surfaced as a prime candidate.
The Rao brothers want to attract a big name to Ewood Park and there is none bigger than the former Argentine superstar who most recently guidedhis national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to mixed results.
It is believed that if Maradona was to come in, he would work with a British coaching staff who understand the English game and the former Barcelona and Napoli star would seemingly be there as a figurehead and well-known face for the Lancashire club.
An Indian insider revealed: "Maradona is seen as the right profile for the VH Group. He could be offered the manager's job, the general manager's job or even technical director."
