Jonas Gutierrez is ready to stay with Newcastle United after a quiet word from Argentina coach Diego Maradona.

The 27-year-old, who has six caps, said: "I have spoken to Diego Maradona and he told me to take care, to do the things in my team and that it is no problem that I have to play in the second division, I'm going to be in the squad for qualification.

"That was very important to hear from the man himself. It was encouraging because to play in the national team is a dream. If he had said I need to play in the top division it would have been difficult."
