The Daily Express says Maradona had been given VIP tickets by United for him and his entourage to watch the game from the directors' box. He stood up and applauded when Steve Gerrard scored Liverpool's second penalty in their 3-0 victory.
But when he asked if he could see Uruguay striker Luis Suarez in the away dressing room after the game his party was refused permission by stewards because, according to United sources, the only access was via the tunnel which was full of broadcasting crews, cameras and cables.
"There were simply too many people in the tunnel to allow access," said a United spokesman. "The only way he would have been able to see anyone would have been to wait by the coach."
