Manner of Man City win delights proud Everton boss Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was left delighted by his side's performance in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

Everton took a huge step in their hopes of earning a place in the final of the Capital One Cup after getting the better of City in the first leg of the semi-final at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

Martinez was understandably delighted with his side's display during the clash and went on to hail the spirit of the dressing room after goals from Ramiro Funes Mori and Romelu Lukaku saw off Manuel Pellegrini's men who were served by a Jesus Navas goal.

Martinez said: "This was more than just a victory, today we showed how far we have come this season, and gives us massive confidence not just for the second leg, but for the rest of the season.

"When we faced Man City in August I felt that from a technical point of view, and from a physical point of view we could match them, but from the psychological point of view we were missing something.

"But we had that here. We showed we can go face to face with a very good team and match them, and we showed that we have the spirit to come back and win, even when they equalised with a very good counter attack. It shows what we have got in the dressing room."
