Roberto Mancini hopes his Manchester City board gives him time to replicate the success Sir Alex Ferguson has brought to Manchester United.
Mancini is aware that success is important for his own survival, having spent £82million so far in the close season.
He said: "I think if we can get the other players we need in the next week we can have a good chance this year.
"But I know Alex Ferguson worked for seven years before he started to win, so it is not easy - and that is why we must work hard to win a trophy."
