Mancini ponders strengthening Man City ahead of Champions League competition

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has already seen a strong Tottenham squad struggle to cope with the twin demands of European and domestic football, so the Italian is now pondering if the Eastlands squad needs increasing. The hard work has only just begun for Manchester City despite delivering on the pre-season demand of the Blues owners to finish in the top four.

"I don't know how many players I will need at this moment," said Mancini.

"When you play in the Champions League and want to try and win the title, you need many players. It is very hard without that.

"Tottenham had a problem this year and they had 26 or 27 good players."

It means new faces can be anticipated at Eastlands, although looming large over such actions are UEFA's financial fair play regulations, which come into force next season, force every club to balance the books to some extent.

So it could also mean an exit for some of City's big earning fringe players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bridge,.
