Mancini now wants Given to stay at Man City

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is now hoping he can persuade goalkeeper Shay Given to remain at the club.

The Republic of Ireland international has stated his intent to leave Eastlands after being demoted to the bench, making way for Joe Hart, but Mancini has held talks trying to get him to stay.

Over the weekend, Given said he would go anywhere for first team football with an emergency loan move for a Newcastle United return mooted following Steve Harper's injury but it seems Mancini wants to keep him around the club and is likely to hand him a first team start in the Carling Cup third round clash with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.
