Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney has played down comparisons with Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Former England and Barcelona coach Terry Venables has likened Rooney to Barca's Lionel Messi in the left-midfield role.

But Rooney was modest in his reaction, saying: "I don't think I've quite got his trickery but Messi is one of my favourite players - and one of the best ever."
