Man Utd's Rooney all-clear over ligament damage

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be fit for England's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on October 11.

The Mirror says in United's win over Aalborg, Rooney did not suffer any serious ankle damage, as was first feared, although the striker is likely to miss Saturday's trip to Blackburn.

Rooney was taken off as a precautionary measure after falling to the ground clutching his ankle.

The 22-year-old striker underwent a scan at a Manchester hospital yesterday and it is understood it revealed nothing more than a minor strain, although he has been told to rest to avoid further damage.

There were fears Rooney could miss England's back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan on October 11 and the trip to Belarus four days later. But with rest it looks as though he will be fit for both games.
