Man Utd's Ronaldo hit with £90,000 fine

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hit Cristiano Ronaldo with a £90,000 fine for his dismissal this week at Portsmouth.

The double Player of the Year was dismissed by referee Steve Bennett after lunging at Portsmouth's Richard Hughes and will miss Sunday's derby against Manchester City. Ferguson feels that Ronaldo was a victim of his own reputation but club policy dictates that the Portugal winger must be fined a week's wages.

The 22-year-old is understood to have apologised to his manager for the lapse that contributed towards United dropping two points. The 1-1 draw at Fratton Park leaves them four points behind Chelsea and City in the Premiership standings after two games.
