After again winning 1-0 this week, against Roma in the Champions League, United prepare for the visit of Wigan at the weekend and stand-in captain Ferdinand is not unduly concerned by recent performances.
"We're playing some good football in fits and starts.
"It's just about getting the consistency and finishing off the chances we're producing because we're still creating a few chances each game, not managing to finish them but I'm sure that will come with time.
"Sometimes it's just about getting the rub of the green and being clinical and finishing your chances.
"The pleasing thing is we're still getting into areas to score and if we weren't there would be something to worry about. But we are."
United's results have been more impressive than their performances so far.
Ferdinand is paying little attention to the table, however.
"I don't think the league is a big thing at this stage of the season. As long as you are in and around the top four places at this stage it is all right.
"If you start dropping loads of points and are becoming eight, nine or 10 points behind the top two then you've got something to worry about.
"This has no bearing to what the league will look like after Christmas. That is when it's important to be up there."
