Man Utd's Ferdinand expects stern Liverpool test

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is expecting a stern test at Liverpool tomorrow.

Ferdinand said: "I've enjoyed good times against Liverpool but I've also been on the receiving end. You have to cherish the moments when it goes well."

Ferdinand once went in with the United fans at Anfield for an FA Cup tie. He was injured and wanted to experience the unique atmosphere of games between the old enemies.

He laughed as he remembered: "It was a bit lively. I loved being part of the passion the fans generate but I'd rather be out on the field. It's more comfortable.

"We've been on a decent run, interrupted by that defeat at Bolton, but we are in good shape. This season any team can beat anyone else on their day and it hasn't always been like that in recent years.

"Getting the right result against Liverpool will be important. Not only would it be an advantage to ourselves, it would damage a major rival.

"I've been impressed by Liverpool this season. The new players have fitted in well and Fernando Torres is a top-class striker.

"But we concentrate on ourselves. We don't look too much at the opposition. As a club, we are making progress. There are a lot of players knocking on the door for a first-team chance.

"It was a brilliant performance by the lads who went to Roma in our Champions League game and will have given those on the fringes a lot of confidence."
