Rio Ferdinand likened linking up with Fabio Capello's new England setup to joining a new school.
Ferdinand and co trained under new boss Capello for the first time on Monday ahead of Wednesday's friendly international with Switzerland.
Ferdinand said: "I think it's inevitable that's it's going to be different, they're different personalities, different people, different cultures.
"Hopefully we can get a good blend. The new manager's got new ideas. He was very successful with his club teams, hopefully he can bring that success and experience to the England squad and we can become a successful team.
"The only way I can explain it is that it's like going to a new school. Or going to a secondary school from a primary school. You're intrigued and excited.
"You want to go out there and see what ideas and what methods the new management have got.
"We're just like school kids waiting to suck up all the information he's got, in the hope that it makes us a better team."
