Man Utd's Carrick not bothered about England return

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick admits he has no great ambition to break back into the England team.

"The England lads are playing some great stuff, getting some great results now, it's got the whole country buzzing about football again and, of course, I want to be part of that," said £18million man Carrick, who broke a bone in his foot in September and enjoyed a rare 90 minutes at Celtic in midweek.

"Naturally, I want to get back in the England squad but I have to take one step at a time. Getting fit and getting back in the team at Manchester United has been my only objective really, so I haven't thought much about England. I have a job to do at United and I just get on with that.

"It definitely helps soften the blow when I'm winning Premier Leagues and European Cups, though.

"I'm not losing sleep about England. The priority for me is to play well for United, then see what happens from there."
