Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is happy to be playing for England again.
Carrick was impressive in the friendly against Italy last month.
The Geordie said: "It was great to play [for England] again. It was over two years since my last cap so it just reflected what I felt like when I got my first cap many years ago.
"To get that feeling again was really special and I really appreciated playing for my country again and the honour that brings. It was a special night for me. I know it was only a friendly and coming early in the season some people see it as low key but for me it was a special night.
"Every ex-footballer that I have come across has said 'play as long as you can' because once it is finished there is no going back. I appreciate how lucky I am to be in this position and I'll try and drag it out as long as possible."
