Manchester United's two-goal Robin van Persie was delighted with victory at Swansea City.
With the pressure on the Reds to pull out a good performance for new manager David Moyes' first league game in charge, United's no.20 expressed his delight at victory in what he described as a tough encounter.
"It was an important day for us today; you don't want to lose the first game of the season. I think we played well, everyone looked fit and we worked very hard. I'm very pleased," van Persie told Sky Sports. "Swansea were better than us for the first fifteen minutes, but the goal changed the game and the second shortly after really helped us.
"My first goal came from a great pass from Giggsy," he said of the game's opening goal. "I felt at the time that my touch was a little heavy so I had to really go for it and take it as high as possible. The second goal was back to the streets a little bit!"
