Manchester United are determined to push Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy this summer to part with Gareth Bale.
The Telegraph says United will turn to signing Bale once they have a deal wrapped up for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Levy is understood to be determined to retain Bale, but with Real Madrid no longer interested in the Wales international, United believe that this summer presents the optimum opportunity to sign the player.
United are yet to lodge a bid for Bale, but having inherited a squad with a midfield depleted by the retirement of Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher's ongoing battle against a bowel condition, manager David Moyes has admitted boosting his midfield is a priority.
