Manchester United insist they won't consider selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid this summer.

"If Ronaldo submits a formal transfer request, it will be rejected," a United insider told the Mirror. "The management and the entire board are at one over this issue and that is that the player is not for sale."

But Ronaldo's camp, led by his agent Jorge Mendes, are keen to maximise the player's huge current market and commercial value by pushing through a move to Madrid this summer.

It is understood Ronaldo's United team-mates have sent him text messages urging him not to leave Old Trafford.
