Manchester United winger Nani believes Saturday's defeat will only make Sir Alex Ferguson more determined to catch new European champions Barcelona.
After guiding United to their 19th title to leap above Liverpool Fergie still remains one behind Bob Paisley's record of three European Cups.
Nani believes that will eat away at him over the summer and the man who turns 70 on New Year's Day will keep his retirement plans on hold.
He said: "Why wouldn't the manager not be determined to keep trying until he gets the third Champions League?
"He's been doing so well in his career. We reached the final and had an opportunity to win the fight against Barcelona and to take the trophy.
"It's so difficult to beat Barca right now. You never know, though, maybe next year we can get to the final again and face a different team.
"Even against Barcelona next year it might be different and be a game that we can win."
