Nani admits Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney was upset over his injured ankle immediately after defeat to Bayern Munich.
Shocked team-mates knew Rooney was suffering as he hobbled off just before the end of Manchester United's 2-1 Champions League setback at Bayern on Tuesday.
Portuguese winger Nani told The Sun: "He was in the dressing room in real pain and feeling sorry for himself.
"I have seen players in this situation a few times before and was convinced that this was a serious injury.
"The blow coincided with Bayern's second goal but it is possible to resolve matters at Old Trafford and pass into the next round.
"But the absence of Rooney is a real negative because he was playing sensational football. For me he is the best striker in Europe."
