Man Utd willing to keep Hargreaves on pay-as-you-play contract

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to offer Owen Hargreaves a career lifeline.

The England midfielder is far from getting over his long-term injury woes, with little progress being made from a hamstring setback.

Hargreaves is off contract in June and the News of the World says United could make a deal which will see him paid £15,000 for every match he plays, excluding all bonuses.

The midfielder has visited specialist knee surgeons in Colorado, Stockholm and London in his quest for a sustainable solution to his knee problem but still has yet to find one.

Hargreaves has been linked with Steve Nash's Vancouver Whitecaps for the coming MLS season.
