Manchester United were offered the chance to sign former Anzhi star Willian ahead of Chelsea.
The Daily Star says Anzhi offered Willian to the Red Devils but Wayne Rooney was manager David Moyes' no.1 option for the no.10 shirt.
Willian eventually signed for the Blues for £30m.
Former Anzhi coach Rene Meulensteen confirmed last week he recommended Willian to United before his sale.
