Rio Ferdinand is set to be declared fit for Manchester United's crunch game against Chelsea on Sunday.

The England defender has not played a league game since the draw with Tottenham on December 13 after suffering back spasms.

But the 30-year-old trained with United's first-team squad on Thursday and will be considered for a starting place alongside Nemanja Vidic.

Cristiano Ronaldo also trained despite writing off his Ferrari in a crash on Thursday morning on his way to the Carrington training ground from his home in Cheshire.

He struck crash barriers in an underpass near Manchester Airport while being followed by team-mate Edwin van der Sar. Despite the impact, Ronaldo freed himself from the wreckage.

United will have left back Patrice Evra available on Sunday after he completed a four-game ban for an incident following last season's game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
