Man Utd to wear black armbands over murder of two policewomen

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his sadness at the murder of the two policewomen killed in a grenade and gun attack, reports the Daily Mail. His players will wear black armbands during Wednesday night's Champions League encounter with Galatasaray at Old Trafford in honour of Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes.

Pc Bone and Pc Hughes had been sent to investigate what appeared to be a routine burglary report in Hattersley, Greater Manchester, yesterday when they were attacked.

Wanted fugitive Dale Cregan later handed himself into a nearby police station.

Ferguson said: 'We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two young policewomen protecting our community.

'Fiona and Nicola were highly valued members of Greater Manchester Police and the local community.

'Our thoughts and prayers are now with their families and friends at this devastatingly sad time.'
