Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has paid tribute to teammate Rafael da Silva.

Both players were on the scoresheet in victory at QPR on Saturday.

"Rafael's had an absolutely magnificent season," Giggs said. "He's got three goals for us and he's maturing all the time. He had a fantastic day.

"We knew it was going to be difficult. It is always hard here and now they are fighting for their lives. It is always tough.

"We dug in the first half. It wasn't a great performance but Rafael's was one of the best goals you are going to see. It was unbelievable. It gave us a cushion and in the second half we played a lot ­better.

"It was just one of those 'wow' moments when it went in the top corner. You knew as soon as he hit it that it was going in the top ­corner. It could be the goal of the season.

"He really deserved it because he has been brilliant all season. He has been consistent and that has just topped off a great season for him.

"He tries it in training. It is a typical Brazilian effort. It doesn't always come off but when it does it is spectacular."
