Man Utd title winning penalty spot to earn £200,000

Blackburn Rovers are at the centre of an eBay controversy.

The Mirror says Blackburn are at the centre of the summer's craziest deal after bidding for one of their penalty spots hit £1million on eBay.

Rovers fan Eddie Maxwell persuaded ground staff to hand over the turf during resurfacing at Ewood Park.

He quickly put it on eBay to raise cash for his Sunday league side King Edward FC and says he has been staggered by the response.

Bidding has been boosted by the fact Wayne Rooney scored from that very spot to secure Manchester United's record 19th title last month.

The leading bid last night stood at an eye-watering £999,950.63, making it the most valuable piece of turf in the world.

Despite suspicions that pranksters might have pushed up the price, Maxwell is confident of bids of up to £200,000 from genuine sports memorabilia collectors.
