Man Utd thrashed 8-2 by Marseille in charity game

Manchester United were thrashed 8-2 by an Olympique Marseille XI in a charity game last night.

Sir Alex Ferguson managed a team in the fixture, which was organised by former Marseille goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta in aid of the "Un sourire, un espoir pour la vie" (A smile, a hope for life) charity.

Ji-sung Park, Patrice Evra, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley all started while Paul Pogba came on for the second half. Former keeper Fabien Barthez began in goal for the Reds and there were appearances for the likes of David Ginola and French pop star Matt Pokora.

The match was an even contest in the first period as, after falling 2-0 down, Sir Alex's side hit back with a quickfire double. Cleverley set up Welbeck for a left-footed finish off the far post and the striker then repaid the favour by playing a wall pass for his pal to calmly slot home. The second half became rather one-sided following a raft of changes and Didier Deschamps' team ran away with it to register an 8-2 scoreline in the end.
