Manchester United are weighing up an offer from Sunderland for defender Jonny Evans.

The Daily Mail says United have told Sunderland they will not let them sign centre back Evans permanently until they have sufficient defensive cover.

The Old Trafford outfit recently sold Spanish youngster Gerard Pique to Barcelona.

United have also told Birmingham that Evans is not available on loan.
