Manchester United target Ashley Young has seen new contract talks with Aston Villa scrapped.
The Mirror says Young's proposed £16million switch to Manchester United has moved closer after his talks with Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner were shelved.
After scoring for England against Switzerland at Wembley on Saturday, he again stated his intention to sit down for talks.
But such is the inevitability of Young's departure after rejecting a new contract at Villa Park, neither party sees any point in holding discussions.
United's top brass have been in negotiations with Villa to discuss a fee of £16m for the versatile winger, who can also operate as a striker.
The transfer should be sealed after Young's marriage this Saturday to partner Nicky in Hertfordshire.
