Manchester United are chasing West Brom's Head of Junior Recruitment Steve Hopcroft.
The Express & Star says contrary to reports elsewhere no deal has been agreed.
The 49-year-old joined Albion from Birmingham City nine years ago and is responsible for helping find some of the club's most promising youngsters of recent seasons including Saido Berahino, Jonathan Leko and Sam Field.
He is highly-rated in his profession, but reports elsewhere that he has been whisked away by Jose Mourinho's team are not true. Hopcroft has not handed in his resignation, and remains employed at the Baggies.
Albion are planning to set up a meeting with him in order to discuss his future at the club, and they will no doubt be keen to keep Hopcroft, who has helped evolve the way the club scout junior talent.
