Manchester United are closing on a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

Brazil are taking on Croatia in a World Cup warm-up at Anfield on Sunday June 3.

The Times says United want to seal a deal for Fred while he's over in the UK for the game.

The player yesterday spoke openly about the interest in him from Manchester rivals United and City.

“There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City," he said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro.

“Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I'm not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United."
