Manchester United are taking a close look at Southampton fullback Luke Shaw. The Manchester Evening News says United have dipped into the January market a few times to nail down promising youngsters early before loaning them back to their former clubs.
Chris Smalling was signed from Fulham in January 2010 for £10m and then returned to Craven Cottage until the end of the season.
The Reds cut the same deal with Crystal Palace last January for £15m Wilfried Zaha.
Shaw fits the bill for a similar arrangement and he's certainly showing the credentials that might capture Patrice Evra's attention a touch across the pitch on Saturday afternoon.
