Man Utd, Sunderland alerted as Jaaskelainen rejects Bolton deal

Manchester United are eyeing Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

With Ben Foster facing six months on the sidelines due to knee surgery, United are weighing up whether to return to the market for a new keeper.

Finland international Jaaskelainen will enter the final year of his current deal with Wanderers in August but has rejected a deal to remain at the Reebok Stadium beyond summer 2008.

His agent Peter Harrison told the Manchester Evening News: "Jussi has turned down his contract with Bolton.

"He is happy to see out the last year of his current contract at the Reebok. But at the moment that's as far as it goes.

"He has given 10 years' great service to Bolton and he is recognised as one of the top three keepers in the Premiership; if not the best.

"The goalkeeping position is a difficult one to fill. You only have to look at other clubs who have spent fortunes on overseas keepers and they haven't worked out.

"Jussi has never given Bolton any problems because he is solid and reliable. He just wants what he feels he is worth."

Jaaskelainen's refusal to commit to a new deal may make him a target for rival Premier League clubs looking for a bargain.

Sunderland and Manchester United are both believed to be interested in the player.
