Man Utd striker Rooney: World Cup draw sent me to sleep

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits he missed the World Cup draw after falling asleep.

The new dad nodded off in a hotel ahead of Manchester United's game at West Ham on Saturday.

Rooney, 24, only found out who England face in South Africa by asking his pals in the hotel.

Striker Rooney said: "I was asleep until 10. We got the train down to London and got to the hotel about 5pm.

"I laid down on my bed to watch the draw on TV and fell asleep."

Shattered Rooney is still struggling to adapt to sleepless nights following the birth of his son Kai on November 2.

The family are refusing to hire a nanny to help.

England face USA, Algeria and Slovenia in Group C next summer.

Rooney, 24, added: "It was a good draw. I saw USA beat Spain in the Confederations Cup. That will be the difficult game.

"I don't know too much about Algeria but I'm sure the manager will have loads of information for us before the game."
