Man Utd striker Rooney to miss Belarus qualifier

Wayne Rooney will miss England's final World Cup qualifier against Belarus at Wembley on Wednesday.

The Manchester United star strained a calf against Ukraine on Saturday and will undergo a scan early this week to determine the extent of the problem.

It seems certain that Rooney will not be fit for the Belarus match but it remains to be seen if he can get up for the Red Devils clash with Bolton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

England boss Fabio Capello said the loss of Rooney would leave an enormous hole in attack.

"He doesn't like to lose, like me. He's an incredible player," Capello said.

The Italian tactician may now use Aston Villa pair Emile Hesky and Gabriel Agbonlahor in attack on Wednesday with West Ham's rejuvenated Carlton Cole also a chance to start.
