Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be hit with a three-match ban after his dismissal during yesterday's 2-0 defeat to Fulham.
Rooney was sent off by referee Phil Dowd for two bookable offences but refused to leave the field and protested his innocence.
On the way to the dressing room Rooney vented his frustration by punching the corner flag.
United's defeat, following last week's 4-1 drubbing against Liverpool, has blown the title race open.
They also had Paul Scholes sent off for deliberate handball.
If Liverpool win today against Aston Villa, United's lead will be cut to just one point.
