Man Utd striker Rooney desperate to face Rangers

Wayne Rooney doesn't want to miss Manchester United's Champions League clash with Rangers tomorrow night.

The Daily Mail says Rooney has pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson to play him against Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Rooney told his manager that he wanted his exile from the Manchester United first team to last only one game as Ferguson broke the news to him on Friday night that he would not be included in the squad for the trip to Everton the next day.

It is understood that Rooney was surprised and disappointed to be told at Manchester's Lowry Hotel on Friday that he would not to be included.

Just hours earlier the 24-year-old striker trained as normal at the club's Carrington training base.

However, during the same conversation, Rooney told his manager that he was in no need of a break from first-team action as he deals with escalating problems in his private life and stressed that he wanted to be straight back in the team from the start of Tuesday night's game.
