Man Utd striker Rooney to be handed England vice-captaincy

England coach Roy Hodgson may name Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney his vice-captain today.

It is hardly a surprise that Rooney, who will be winning his 75th cap, is under consideration to be Steven Gerrard's deputy as England captain.

"We haven't designated a vice-captain yet," said Hodgson.

"Quite frankly, with him not being available we haven't really felt the necessity before now to decide on that.

"But we are very much considering him for that position, yes."
