Man Utd striker Owen survives X-rated tackle shocker

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson survived a Michael Owen injury scare last night against Bayern Munich.

He was cut down in the 22nd minute of last night's Audi Cup final, which Manchester United lost in a penalty shootout.

Owen was picked out with a perfect through ball by Paul Scholes only for Bayern's Martin Demichelis to scythe him down, says The Sun.

If it had been a competitive match Demichelis would have received a red card.

As it was, he got a ticking off leaving England striker Owen the one in trouble.

The tackle on new signing Owen was a major scare for Fergie. The striker stayed on but was left holding his ankle as he tried to run the problem off.

He eventually went on to play until the 78th minute when he was replaced by Wayne Rooney.

Owen could have won the game in normal time when Scholes carved out a great chance on 62 minutes.

Dimitar Berbatov brought the ball forward, fed Scholes who dinked it through for Owen.

He was left with the goalkeeper to beat from an angle 10 yards out but Michael Rensing blocked his shot.
