Man Utd star Rooney unsure how boxing video was leaked

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he has no idea how a video of him sparring with former teammates was leaked to the press.

The Sun gained access to the footage of Rooney and Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley - an ex-United player - boxing in the England skipper's house in Cheshire last month.

It shows Rooney copping a jab to the face from Bardsley before crashing to the floor which became the subject of his goal celebration in Sunday's 3-0 home win over Tottenham.

However, the Red Devils forward has no idea how the video got out to the press although he was quick to note that it did not affect his performance.

"That's the world we live in today. It was a few mates in a private house, which has somehow managed to go front page of a national newspaper... it was me and a few friends joking about," Rooney told Sky Sports 1.

"It's in my own home so it's not in any public place but I don't know how it's got out. You know it's what friends do, we mess around in the house and unfortunately it's made the front page of the newspaper so we just deal with it."

Rooney added: "I've been focused on the game, I think it's more interesting for other people rather than myself. You've seen I've done a professional job, got on with the game."

Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Rooney all netted in the first half as United comfortably accounted for Spurs to remain fourth on the Premier League table.
