Man Utd star Rooney grateful to Everton for grounding

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney admits he's amazed by the progress of his career.

Rooney says he will always be grateful to former club Everton for introducing him to the pro game.

"It is an amazing journey going from Netherton when I was nine to what is going on in my career now," Rooney told evertonTV. "I never thought my career would be at the stage it is now."

The striker also spoke of the impact Colin Harvey had on his career and how the former Everton youth coach kept him focused on his game.

"He was brilliant with me," he added. "I started training with him when I was 14.

"In one game I scored three but the next game I was a sub! I wondered what was going on but it was his way of keeping my feet on the ground."
