Man Utd skipper Vidic: We need passion from fans, not thuggery

Manchester United skipper Nemanja Vidic says the players are as passionate as any fan.

Rio Ferdinand was cut above the eye by a coin last Sunday and while Manchester City apologised, some of their supporters suggested United's players had wound them up with their celebrations.

But Vidic said: "Sometimes the fans think they want to win more than the players.

"Come on, we play the games, we work hard, we want to win the games and the trophies, we have emotions as well.

"You don't disrespect the other team and go in their faces but it's normal to celebrate as long as it's in the right manner.

"It is good to have feelings to scream and shout but if it spills over to violence and throwing things it is not good for the image of football at all. You should ban the people who do these things. The action has to be quick, strong and determined."
