Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic eats strikers for breakfast - but he admits growing up he idolised the game's great attacking players.

Vidic was asked about his idols as a junior player in a manutd.com fans Q&A.

"To be fair I never looked at defenders. I played as a right-back then as a central defender but I never looked at them as my idols. I liked the forwards and midfield players. I am still a big fan of Red Star Belgrade and we had a great generation, the best in the history in 1991. Savicevic, Prosinecki, Jugovic - they are the players I loved to watch.

"I watched the Super Cup final against United but I don't remember it as Red Star lost the game. I always watched the games against Bayern Munich in the semi-finals when I was young. I had a video and watched it so many times because the video didn't work well and got stuck inside. They used to say 'You've watched it again!' to me. Other players I used to love watching were also forwards, Tino Asprilla at Parma and Gabriel Batistuta at Fiorentina."
