Wayne Rooney has spoken of his pride at getting close to overtaking Denis Law as he looks to become United's top goalscorer.

Rooney needs just one goal to equal Denis Law's record of 237 which would place him just 12 behind Sir Bobby Charlton as the Old Trafford club's highest scorer in history.

If Rooney nets against CSKA Moscow at Arena Khimki, he will also equal Ruud Van Nistelrooy as United's highest European scorer.

"Of course records are important," he said.

"I think in these days of social media you see stats coming up all the time. Denis was a huge player in the club's history and I would be proud to go equal or go past him. But if it doesn't happen here I've got plenty of time."
