Man Utd signing Martial makes France debut

Manchester United signing Anthony Martial has made his France debut.

Martial capped a pivotal week by making his senior debut for France on Friday night - just three days after joining the Reds from AS Monaco.

Initially on the bench for the friendly match in Portugal, the 19-year-old striker replaced Real Madrid's Karim Benzema in the 74th minute, and was therefore on the pitch when fellow substitute Mathieu Valbuena broke the deadlock five minutes from full-time.

Valbuena's solitary, decisive strike was a brilliant free-kick that former United players Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani would have been proud of - both of them started for the hosts in Lisbon, while their ex-team-mate Patrice Evra lined up in Didier Deschamps' French defence.

Another of United's summer acquisitions, Morgan Schneiderlin, was also among the subs but he entered the fray as a half-time replacement for Crystal Palace's in-form midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
